PPI LONDON

Events

The Client:

PPI (Perhimpunan Pelajar Indonesia) London is the Indonesian Students Association organisation in London. PPI London aims to connect students in London with events, relevant news, and a series of work programs.

The Brief:

PPI needed support from Goho to provide all technical provisions and management of their festival event stage at the Resonance of Indonesia event in London.

The stage was to run like a festival with multiple bands over the event taking to the stage which all required separate stage layouts and technical needs.

Goho was to source, and hire a range of instruments, including a real grand piano, bespoke microphones and equipment for the Indonesian musicians and run the event technically on the day.

Goho provided 2 engineers on the day - a monitor engineer to take care of the sound stage side and also a stage technician to set up the stage (at speed!) for every act on the festival that day.

Goho also uses their Technical Director Jon Shone on the day to run the stage and be the main POC for all activity.

The event also had artists that had more bespoke monitoring needs - several of the bands required In-ear monitoring. Goho provided radio packs and systems to support this.

Goho provide backing track playback for dancers and artists that had no live music accompaniment.

The Challenge:

One of the biggest challenges faced on the project was the very short allocation of time throughout the day. That meant the Goho technical team needed to reset turn-around stage layouts and mix the band's monitors and front-of-house sound within very short time frames. Therefore it was paramount that Goho used some of their most skilled engineers that had the depth of experience that could execute such a tightly packed schedule with little tolerance for error.

Another big challenge for us was the number of bespoke instruments we needed to source, from very specific microphones to a beautiful C3 Grand Piano, which not only needed to be delivered and assembled at short notice but also tuned in a very short time frame before the event load in. - luckily Goho's network of contacts allowed us to secure all the required equipment in such a short notice period!

Liaising with the venue on stage layouts, in-house equipment, logistics was also a challenge. Goho attended pre-site walk-throughs and met with in-house key stakeholders to establish a good line of communication and understanding between both parties.

Our Approach:

The client had run events like this before, they had not delivered anything this ambitious, and it was their biggest event to date! Goho's approach was to be the voice of experience in the room to support and help facilitate the client's vision for the event. Our Technical Manager Jon Shone called multiple teams calls leading up to the event liaising with multiple stakeholders, including the key personnel at the venue, the client and Goho's technical team. This ensured everyone was always across the progress of the event. In addition, Goho took the responsibility of the project management for the delivery of all equipment that was being used on the stage.

Results:

Events like this are never simple, especially with a lot of artists on rotation throughout the day. However, the results were clear. Everything ran to time, with very few challenges on the day ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all artists and talent on the stage.

We had fantastic reviews from both our attendees and headliners, and we couldn’t have done it without Goho
