Day in the Life - Account Executive
Account Executive, Charli, shares her experience on what a day is like working at Goho, from her commute, to her morning coffee, client meetings and end of the day thoughts.
As I stand on the train overcrowded with morning commuters, my mind drifts back to the quote I found printed at the bottom of my journal this morning. ‘Just one small positive thought in the morning can change your day’. Easier said than done when you have an armpit one side of you and someone watching TikTok’s out loud the other.
If you hadn’t guessed already, I am not much of a morning person. Not before my 9am coffee anyway, which is all I can think about as I squish back against the doors to let another band of workers onto the train.
My 6am start gives me time to write my daily affirmations and goals in my journal, spend too long soaking in the bath before getting ready to head into the city for a day with the team, which is why when I join the hustle and bustle of Liverpool Street station I head straight to the office. It isn’t true that coffee was all I had been able to think about on the way into work, in fact I had been going over ideas for a campaign my team are launching for Goho in the days to come. You see, I have only been working at Goho for a few months now and so being let loose on this new project that perfectly plays to the strengths of each team member means I can dive in and do what I love. Create!
Our team sits in a bright corner of the office by the coffee bar, and so breakfast is enjoyed as the sun lights up our view of London landmarks. Whilst others prefer phones and online diaries, I am old fashioned and so open my notebook to write today’s to-do list. Life at Goho is never dull, that is one thing I have realised in my first months here. Just weeks in we were arriving back from a once in a lifetime trip to Mexico, and today my day is filled with team sessions, a gym class and drinks after work. Work hard, play hard, right?
Community management and engagement is always a priority in the morning as an Account Executive, and so I spend a while working on this before it is time for client meetings. A nice part of the job is getting to spend time with our clients. Whilst we do this in person where possible, virtual chats are the way forward as working from home becomes increasingly popular. I always get drawn into these chats, seeing owners and professionals discuss what is coming up for them in the months to come. Witnessing these people get to talk about their passions is a privilege, and we get to help them do it!
After a little work on a website I am building for a client, it is time for a team session with our resident therapist, team motivator and all round mentor Al. With the Goho team growing and busy weeks lying ahead, this session gives us time together to talk through our strengths and plan of progression
Before I know it, it’s lunch time, and whilst food is on my brain it is time for the team to head to a nearby gym for a Beyonce themed spin class. Am I regretting signing up in this moment? Maybe, but I know fresh air and exercise will only boost my motivation and productivity for the rest of the day and so I go-not to mention it will make the wine I am going to drink later guilt free!
Spin classes have never been my kind of thing after a torturous experience at one before, but there is something different about this one. I don’t think it is just the disco lights and playlist that makes it bearable, but being there with my team actually makes it enjoyable.
From a busy morning to a quiet afternoon, I appreciate the down time as the team breaks off to various meetings across the city until there are just two of us left. One on one time with my colleagues is nice - it has been nice getting to know all the different characters that make up this awesome team, but the time is also needed to power through some graphics for socials and a few blog posts. Jumping from recruitment to the movie industry could be a little much for some, but I love getting to dive into the many aspects of different companies. I guess you could call me nosey, but getting a glimpse behind the scenes is what I love!
Whilst my working day finishes a little after 6pm as I send off an interview write up, the night is just beginning. The girls are already in a nearby bar and so I settle in for the night with a glass (or bottle) of wine. Social’s like these have been nice. Work is busy and we all want to do the best we can for Goho and our clients, but downtime with the team is important too. We spend such a large percentage of our lives at work, I am passionate about making that job and atmosphere one you love being in, and so as I look around at my team laughing and planning the weeks ahead, I can’t help but smile to myself. Whatever experiences may have led me here, I am thankful for them, for I get to fill my days doing work that I love with people I love being around.
The night ends in hugs and wishes for a nice weekend, followed by a short train ride home.
I am also thankful for my bed when I curl up beneath the duvet. Life can be tough and most days aren’t perfect, but today was a good one and that is something I am learning to take notice of. Those small moments that make me smile. I jot down in my journal what I am thankful for and what I want tomorrow to bring. More of this, I think and turn my light off.
